Northolt's flats are mostly estate maisonettes, and a maisonette is not a flat with extra steps. It is its own kind of day, and worth explaining properly.
The external stair
Most Northolt maisonettes put a stair on the outside of the building, rising to a first-floor front door, frequently with a shared landing below. That means every item is carried outside before it is carried inside — which changes what needs covering, where the vehicle has to stand, and how the day runs if the weather turns.

Are the newer blocks easier?
Physically, yes — loading bays, lifts, somewhere sensible to stand. They usually want the move booked in advance, which is an administrative constraint rather than a physical one.

Will communal areas be protected?
